The latest study on estrogen sends complex signals about the effects of the hormone on women who have had hysterectomies, with those who started therapy in their 70s experiencing “potential harm” while women in their 50s didn’t.

The research, funded by the National Institutes of Health, followed women for an average of more than 10 years and is the most extensive look at the topic.
